Anyone spending time on Tenerife this summer and looking for something different from the beach, a terrace or the promenade will find a remarkably varied cultural programme in Santa Cruz. The Auditorio de Tenerife, the well-known white building by the sea, is not using the summer months as a quiet interval, but as a bridge between the end of the current season and the start of the 2026-2027 season. Until the end of July, several performances are still on the agenda, featuring dance, film music, jazz and symphonic music.
A varied programme
For visitors who already know the island well, it is especially the mix that makes the programme interesting. Tenerife is increasingly trying to present itself as more than just a classic sun destination. The Auditorio plays an important role in this. Its programme brings international companies to Santa Cruz, while also making room for projects linked to the cultural life of the Canary Islands.
In the coming days, the focus will be strongly on dance. Within the MAPAS programme, several performances are planned. On 7 July, La Quijá by Paloma Muñoz is on the agenda. During the weekend of 11 and 12 July, Hammer will follow, a production by the GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, choreographed by Alexander Ekman. On 14 July, the same Swedish company returns with a double programme: Wild Poetry by Hofesh Shechter and ima by Sharon Eyal. Later in the month, on 24 July, Bodies of Water by Iván Pérez will be performed.
Major concerts
Film music lovers will also be treated to a special series. FIMUCITÉ, the International Film Music Festival of Tenerife, is celebrating its twentieth edition this year and will conclude at the Auditorio with several major concerts. On 16 July, John Williams Reimagined will be performed, a programme dedicated to the music of the famous film composer. On 17 and 18 July, Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert will follow, with the 1977 film classic being screened while the Sinfónica de Tenerife performs the music live. On 19 July, the festival will end with the FIMUCITÉ 20 Red Carpet Gala.
After that, there will still be room for jazz. As part of Canarias Jazz & Más, concerts by Tigran Hamasyan and Jacob Collier are scheduled for 21 and 22 July. The latter concert in particular, with the Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, could become a remarkable evening for music lovers.
September marks the start of the new season
In August, the Auditorio will take a break, but at the beginning of September the new season will start immediately. On 5 and 6 September, the Ballet Nacional de España will open with Afanador, inspired by the work of Colombian photographer Ruvén Afanador. A few days later, on 10 and 11 September, the Sinfónica de Tenerife will open its season with Mahler’s Second Symphony.
For over-50s who regularly visit Tenerife or live on the island, this programme is a pleasant reminder that Santa Cruz also has a great deal to offer in the evening. The Auditorio is also located close to the city centre, making it easy to combine a performance with a walk along the coast or dinner in the capital.
