    WEATHER IN APRIL IN TENERIFE

The weather in April in Tenerife can be compared to a warm and sunny spring in the Low Countries. Those traveling to Tenerife in April are naturally interested in the climatological conditions and the weather that adorns this subtropical region.

To give this article a realistic form, we need to consult the meteorological institute and sift through the long-term averages.

Tenerife, as the largest island of the Canary Islands, enjoys a subtropical climate with mild temperatures throughout the year. The month of April shows some differences in temperature and precipitation between the northern and southern parts of the island. The nature reserve Las Cañadas, Parque Natural del Teide, and the Teide itself are part of a climate that is only active in high mountain ranges.

The data we publish in this article are long-term averages, so it’s possible that the figures may be slightly higher or lower, but there won’t be significant differences.

    Temperature

The daily maximum temperatures hover around 23°C, rarely dropping below 20°C or exceeding 26°C.
The daily minimum temperatures are around 17°C, rarely falling below 15°C or exceeding 19°C.

For reference, on August 19, the hottest day of the year, temperatures in Tenerife typically range from 22°C to 28°C, while on February 8, the coldest day of the year, they range from 15°C to 21°C.

The clearest day of the month is April 7, with clear, mostly clear, or partly cloudy conditions 77% of the time.

For reference, on November 15, the most cloudy day of the year, the chance of cloudiness or mostly cloudy is 38%, while on July 18, the clearest day of the year, the chance of clear, mostly clear, or partly cloudy skies is 98%.

    Precipitation

In Tenerife, the chance of a wet day in April gradually decreases, starting at 5% at the beginning of the month and ending at 2% at the end of the month. A wet day is one with at least 1 millimeter per m2 or 1 liter per m3 of precipitation.
The average rainfall over a 31-day period in April in Tenerife is essentially constant, staying around 5 millimeters, and seldom exceeding 21 millimeters.

    Humidity

We base the comfort level of humidity on the dew point, as this determines whether sweat will evaporate from the skin, cooling the body. At lower dew points, it feels drier, while at higher dew points, it feels more humid. Unlike temperature, which can vary significantly between day and night, the dew point usually changes more slowly, so even if the temperature drops at night, a humid day will generally also lead to a humid night.
The chance of any given day in Tenerife in April being humid remains nearly constant, around 0%. The lowest chance of a muggy day in April is 0% on April 10.

For reference, on August 30, the muggiest day of the year, it is muggy 45% of the time, while on January 14, the least muggy day of the year, it is 0% of the time.

    Wind

This section covers the average hourly wind speed across a large area (speed and direction) at 10 meters above the ground. Wind at a specific location is highly dependent on local topography and other factors, and instantaneous wind speed and direction can vary more than hourly averages.

The average hourly wind direction in Tenerife in April is predominantly from the north, with a peak percentage of 79% on April 30.

    Sea temperature

Tenerife lies in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, which acts as a radiator and is responsible for the warmer temperatures in coastal areas. After the cooler winter months, the sea temperature drops to its absolute minimum. Starting in April, the surface temperature begins to rise, reaching nearly 24°C by October 1.

On April 1, the surface temperature is 19°C, rising to 20°C by April 30. The average surface water temperature in Tenerife in April remains essentially constant, staying around 19°C throughout the month.

    Solar energy

This section covers the total daily shortwave solar energy reaching the Earth’s surface over a wide area, accounting for seasonal variations in day length, the sun’s elevation above the horizon, and absorption by clouds and other atmospheric constituents. Shortwave radiation includes visible light and ultraviolet radiation.
The average daily incident shortwave solar energy in Tenerife gradually increases in April, rising by 0.7 kWh, from 6.7 kWh to 7.5 kWh by the end of the month.

I have always given Tenerife a central place and have managed to weave the island into my texts within my editorial and journalistic network. The island, which I have been in love with for decades, has seduced me into writing three books, several reading pamphlets, and thousands of articles, columns, and prose. Information and news are the products, pen and paper are the tools, while engagement is the glue. I want to share the result with everyone. I had to discover it first, then I could articulate it because we are tied to our origins by a thousand threads. Not me..., I was just born in the wrong place. © All works are copyrighted.
