    TENERIFE FASHION BEACH

From 21 to 26 September, Costa Adeje will once again be focusing on fashion, design and sustainability with the ninth edition of Tenerife Fashion Beach Costa Adeje. What once began as an initiative to give local swimwear brands greater visibility has since grown into an event featuring designers from several of the Canary Islands. This year, a variety of activities will also be organised that are of interest to the general public.

The event is organised by the Cabildo of Tenerife and Adeje Town Council. This edition places a strong emphasis on local talent and sustainability, meaning the programme goes far beyond the traditional fashion show at the end of the week.

Three days of learning about fashion

On Monday 21 September, a three-day workshop will begin at the Centro de Desarrollo Turístico de Costa Adeje. It is aimed at people who would like to become involved in the world of swimwear or learn more about the textile industry. Tenerife brands Waiola Wear and Pendientera will provide sessions covering topics such as pattern making, responsible design and sustainability in clothing production.

On Thursday 24 September, part of the programme will move to the centre of Adeje. At 5.30 pm, the so-called Fresh Face casting will take place at Plaza de España. Interestingly, the organisers are not exclusively looking for experienced models. The initiative is specifically designed to give people interested in modelling an opportunity to take their first steps in the industry.

An hour later, at 6.30 pm, the Foro de la Moda will take place on the rooftop terrace of Hotel Mynd Adeje. Discussions will focus on new fashion trends, inclusivity and the influence of social media on our shopping habits. Admission to the forum is free.

    Cleaning up the beaches

Fashion and environmental awareness will come together on Friday 25 September. Between 10.00 am and noon, an initiative will take place at Playa del Duque and Playa de Torviscas to collect single-use plastics. Participants can receive reusable bottles, and the activity will also be linked to tickets for the main fashion show.

Saturday 26 September marks the final day of the event. During the day, visitors to The Duke Shop will be able to discover various designers and brands at a special market featuring accessories and beachwear.

Major fashion show at Playa del Duque

The highlight comes on Saturday evening at Playa del Duque Norte. With the Atlantic Ocean as its backdrop, a large open-air catwalk will be set up. Eleven specialised swimwear brands will be featured, alongside a selection of accessory designers.

For the first time, fashion programmes from five Canary Islands will be represented simultaneously. In addition to Tenerife Moda, these include Gran Canaria Moda Cálida, Isla Bonita Moda from La Palma, Lanzarote Moda and La Gomera Moda. Tenerife will be represented by brands including Arena Negra, Ananas Wear, Waiola, LAVA and Bea de la Rosa.

The combination of fashion and tourism has already generated considerable attention for Tenerife. According to the organisers, the previous edition generated more than 39 million direct media impressions, while the publicity achieved an estimated communication value of more than three million euros.

Next week, Costa Adeje will therefore temporarily take on a role beyond that of a popular holiday destination. For six days, the south of Tenerife will also become a showcase for Canary Islands design, local entrepreneurship and more sustainable fashion.
