Spain’s most beautiful road is on Tenerife, with the TF-21 at the top of a list of Scenic Routes of National Tourist Interest.
Spain is paved with over 165,500 kilometers of roads, and the most beautiful stretch is found on Tenerife. This was determined by Civitatis, a specialized travel and tourism activities portal in Spain, which compiled a list of the ten most beautiful and unique roads in the country.
At the top of the list is the TF-21, the road leading to Teide, which also connects La Orotava and Granadilla de Abona. Other roads can be found HERE.
Key Deciding Factor
According to the travel portal, whose website receives an average of 200 million page views per year and over 700,000 recommendations and reviews, the TF-21 on Tenerife surpasses roads crossing landscapes around the lakes of Covadonga or the access road to Cabo de Gata. Although the TF-21 crosses a large part of the island, from La Orotava to Granadilla de Abona, the deciding factor was the section that passes through Teide National Park, known as Las Cañadas.
Pure Nature
Two major aspects placed the island road at the top of the list. On the one hand, a modern route runs through the nature park, flanked by volcanic lava landscapes, native vegetation, and stunning multi-layered geological views. On the other, the imposing presence of Teide itself, rising to 3,715 meters, crowns the road and leaves a lasting impression on visitors.
Ranking
The TF-21 is the only road in the Canary Islands featured on the list. The rest of the list from the tourist portal includes roads around the lakes of Covadonga in Asturias, the wetlands in Madrid, Sa Calobra in Mallorca, Cala D’Hort in Ibiza, the lighthouses of Mola and Barbaria in Formentera, Cabo de Gata in Almería, the Jerte Valley in Cáceres, Cape Fisterra in Galicia, and the approach to the famous Puente del Diablo in Tarragona.
