Sleeping in a Cider Barrel on Tenerife is a unique experience offered in Trevejos, a hamlet of Vilaflor de Chasna.
Cueva Los Almendros is an estate where you can enjoy not only an unforgettable experience at an altitude of 1,200 meters above sea level but also a truly unique accommodation.
At Cueva Los Almendros, there is no reception, no buffet, and no numbered rooms. There are two caves and three gigantic cider barrels for sleeping. Each of the large barrels, which come from Asturias, is furnished with a double bed and a bedside table, with a window offering views across much of Trevejos, even reaching as far as the Arona coastline. The sleeping accommodations are equipped with air conditioning or heating, depending on the user’s needs, powered by 19 solar panels that provide energy for the entire site.
An Idyllic Place
Originally, Luxembourg native Roger Kamp purchased the 3,000-square-meter property, with its two caves, with the intention of using it himself. Twenty years later, he decided to transform it into a guest accommodation. Families of up to eight people and couples seeking tranquility are sure to find what they’re looking for at this idyllic spot. The concept has proven popular, with the estate already fully booked until October, despite the absence of both international and domestic tourism. Over 90% of his clientele are residents of the Canary Islands.
The estate’s location is truly spectacular, offering panoramic views: to the north, Vilaflor and the high mountains; to the east, the vast vineyards of Trevejos; to the west, the prominent pine forests; and to the south, the municipality of Arona extending all the way to the coast.
Cider Barrels
The main attraction at Cueva Los Almendros is the opportunity to sleep in cider barrels. Each barrel, measuring 1.7 by 2.5 meters on the inside, has a capacity of 20,000 liters. Roger Kamp currently owns three such barrels and hopes to acquire an even larger one soon, where he could install both a kitchen and bathroom in addition to the bedroom.
The estate serves as a natural backdrop filled with various fruit trees. The almond trees, in particular, which bloom in spring, give the estate a “Falcon Crest” feel, hence the name Cueva Los Almendros.
