Anyone travelling around Santa Cruz de Tenerife by public transport will have a new option from Monday, 3 August. Titsa has launched the new urban bus route 915. This circular bus service, known locally in Tenerife as a guagua, directly connects Santa Cruz’s central bus station with Ofra, travelling through areas including Somosierra, Tío Pino and Camino del Hierro. The measure forms part of a wider reorganisation of the city’s urban bus network.
Easier and faster
The new route departs from platform 12 at the Intercambiador de Santa Cruz. From there, the bus travels along Avenida Tres de Mayo, Azorín, Valle Inclán and Alcalde García Ramos towards Somosierra and Tío Pino. The route then continues via Camino del Hierro, Avenida Príncipes de España and Juan XXIII before returning to the city centre. The service operates on weekdays only.
With the introduction of route 915, the detour previously made by route 908 through Camino del Hierro has been removed. This should make journeys easier and faster for many passengers. One bus will be permanently assigned to the new service. According to the published timetable, there will be nineteen daily journeys between 6.20 am and 10.30 pm. The annual cost of this part of the service is approximately 200,800 euros.
Extended timetable
Route 908 itself is also changing. This connection between the bus station and the Ofra neighbourhood will now follow one fixed route via the Carretera General del Rosario. On weekdays, two additional journeys will be added and the timetable will be extended until 12.15 am. At weekends, six extra journeys will be provided, with services continuing until 1.20 am. The extended timetable may be particularly convenient for residents and visitors staying in the capital in the evening.
Another notable change concerns route 914. Now that Calle La Rosa has reopened to traffic, this circular route will once again travel along the street and will be extended to Residencial Anaga. Seven stops will be added, five of which are completely new. The route will also be operated by a fully electric bus. A total of 38 journeys are planned on weekdays and twenty at weekends. The El Pilar stop, number 9358, will be removed. Passengers can instead use the nearby Parque García Sanabria stop.
Additional journeys
Routes 904, 912 and 919 will also be strengthened, particularly later in the day. Route 904 will receive three additional late services on weekdays and two at weekends. Route 912 will operate for longer hours, while route 919 will gain one additional weekday journey. At the same time, route 902 is temporarily being diverted due to roadworks in Calle Lope de Vega.
The municipality is allocating 482,500 euros per year to the full package of measures. The improvements are expected to attract around 510,000 additional passengers annually. Travellers are advised to check the latest timetable on the Titsa website or through its mobile services before setting off, as several routes and stops have been changed at the same time.
