HIPERDINO AND FOOD AID ON TENERIFE

Hiperdino and Food Aid on Tenerife and the Other Canary Islands: 567,000 Kilograms Donated to Food Banks as Charity.

The Fundación DinoSol strengthens the supermarket chain’s commitment to solidarity and sustainability. Since its inception, this project has served as an example of how companies can lead initiatives that have a real and lasting impact on humanity in the Canary Islands.

    People in Need

The Alimentos conVida project, initiated by HiperDino and the Fundación DinoSol in 2024, has provided an impressive 567,387 kilograms of food to support the most vulnerable people. Thanks to this initiative, 33 soup kitchens and social organizations across the Canary Islands have been able to provide food daily to 12,325 individuals.

Alimentos conVida was founded in June 2020 with the goal of reducing food waste in the chain’s stores. Unsellable but still edible products are redistributed to people who need them most. This social initiative has had a significant impact in the fight against inequality by ensuring that fresh products such as fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and bread remain part of the diet for those in need.

    Daily and Sustainable Impact

Thanks to this program, the economic value of the donated goods in 2024 amounted to a remarkable 1,446,417 euros, sourced from the 170 stores and three logistics centers actively involved in the initiative. Beyond its social impact, this initiative also contributes to sustainability, a fundamental pillar in the strategy of HiperDino and Fundación DinoSol.

Since its launch, Alimentos conVida has become a model for how businesses can create lasting and positive impacts. Currently, six full-time employees are dedicated to this project, in addition to the valuable efforts of store staff and logistics center employees. Their daily commitment is crucial to the success and continuity of this initiative.

    Improving Lives, Every Day

For HiperDino and the Fundación DinoSol, one of their key missions is to ensure that available resources are used efficiently and converted into opportunities for the most vulnerable. That is why they continue to work on expanding this project, reaffirming their commitment to a fairer and more sustainable society.

Sustainability is integrated into the company strategy, focusing on three core areas: supporting the Canary Islands community and families, offering sustainable products and services, and additionally managing the environment and combating climate change.

I have always given Tenerife a central place and have managed to weave the island into my texts within my editorial and journalistic network. The island, which I have been in love with for decades, has seduced me into writing three books, several reading pamphlets, and thousands of articles, columns, and prose. Information and news are the products, pen and paper are the tools, while engagement is the glue. I want to share the result with everyone. I had to discover it first, then I could articulate it because we are tied to our origins by a thousand threads. Not me..., I was just born in the wrong place. © All works are copyrighted.
