    HIKING TRAILS ON TENERIFE REOPENED

Hiking trails on Tenerife reopened. After improvements and adjustments to safety conditions, the island government – the Cabildo de Tenerife – has made four hiking trails accessible again.

As we mentioned in this article, several trails were closed due to harsh weather conditions and the carelessness of hikers who ultimately had to be rescued from the situations they had gotten themselves into.

    Reopened

    The reopened hiking trails are:
Trail no. 9 (Teide-Pico Viejo), trail no. 12 (Mirador de Pico Viejo), trail no. 23 (Regatones Negros), and trail no. 28 (Chafarí). However, trails 7 (Montaña Blanca-Pico Teide) between the top of Montaña Blanca and the point where trail no. 7 intersects with trail no. 11 (Mirador de La Fortaleza), trail no. 10 (Telesforo Bravo), and trail no. 11 (Mirador de La Fortaleza) remain closed due to the risk to hikers from the presence of ice and snow.

The reopening includes the section of trail no. 9 (Teide-Pico Viejo) that runs between the intersections with trails no. 38 (Cuevas Negras) and 12 (Mirador de Pico Viejo), which was previously closed, as well as the aforementioned trails no. 12, 23, and 28.

On the other hand, the following trails or sections of them remain closed: Trail no. 7: Montaña Blanca-Pico Teide, between the top of Montaña Blanca and the point where trail no. 7 intersects with trail no. 11 (Mirador de La Fortaleza). Trail no. 10: Telesforo Bravo. Trail no. 11: Mirador de La Fortaleza.

    Exceptions to the Closure

The closure does not apply to: People with a mountaineering membership. They must have the required basic winter equipment (technical clothing, crampons, and an ice axe). They must also provide a certificate of competence issued by the relevant federations, which they must show to the control team. Furthermore, they must be registered in the Tenerife ON application or website.

The exception to the closure is also not valid for: Recognized active tourist companies. These companies must be legally registered to operate in the Teide National Park and have guides with the necessary qualifications (intermediate mountaineering technician or higher and/or a similar professional accreditation) to hike on snow-covered terrain. These companies must also have the required basic winter equipment, and registration is also required.

With these measures, the Cabildo hopes to ensure the safety of visitors and encourage responsible use of the hiking trails in the winter conditions on Teide.

I have always given Tenerife a central place and have managed to weave the island into my texts within my editorial and journalistic network. The island, which I have been in love with for decades, has seduced me into writing three books, several reading pamphlets, and thousands of articles, columns, and prose. Information and news are the products, pen and paper are the tools, while engagement is the glue. I want to share the result with everyone. I had to discover it first, then I could articulate it because we are tied to our origins by a thousand threads. Not me..., I was just born in the wrong place. © All works are copyrighted.
