Hiking on Tenerife with Jan (6): An Experience on a Natural Rock Arch

El Arco de La Puente is a remarkable natural rock arch located above the Barranco de la Puente in the hamlet of La Puente de Güímar, in the municipality of Güímar.

You can see the arch from the TF-1 highway in Güímar, near kilometer marker 29.

To get a closer look at the arch, it’s best to park your car in the village at the coordinates N28°14.993 W16°23.900, at a parking spot near the La Puente sea pool. We found a spot under a tree, which provided some welcome shade for the car.

From the parking area, head towards the TF-1, passing the small playground. Follow the (dry) riverbed and go through the tunnel under the highway. At the other end, climb the slope to your right – this is the most challenging part of the trip.

Once you reach the top, follow the edge of the barranco until you find yourself on top of the arch. From there, you can descend into the barranco on the other side.
The distance from the car to the arch is 385 meters.

The arch might eventually have to make way for the planned railway connection between Santa Cruz and the south of the island. If you want to visit the arch, don’t delay!
Sturdy hiking shoes are essential for this adventure.

I have always given Tenerife a central place and have managed to weave the island into my texts within my editorial and journalistic network. The island, which I have been in love with for decades, has seduced me into writing three books, several reading pamphlets, and thousands of articles, columns, and prose. Information and news are the products, pen and paper are the tools, while engagement is the glue. I want to share the result with everyone. I had to discover it first, then I could articulate it because we are tied to our origins by a thousand threads. Not me..., I was just born in the wrong place. © All works are copyrighted.
