Funding for natural beauty on Tenerife is allocated to sustainably enhance and ecologically brighten urban areas.
The Cabildo de Tenerife, the island government, recently approved a significant investment for an urban landscape plan aimed at boosting the attractiveness, sustainability, and functionality of urban areas across the island.
Aesthetic Benefits
A total of over five million euros will be allocated to this ambitious project, covering 13 projects across 12 municipalities from 2025 to 2027. Rosa Dávila, the president of the Cabildo, and Manuel Fernández, the Minister of Industry, presented this at a press conference, emphasizing that the plan focuses on enhancing green infrastructure, biodiversity, and landscape restoration in various locations.
This new landscape plan not only offers aesthetic benefits but also addresses the practical needs of the communities. The proposed renovations and improvements have been designed in close collaboration with local municipalities.

Municipalities
In Guía de Isora, for example, La Entrada Street will be redeveloped as an access road with shaded areas and green zones, improving and beautifying access to the town. In Fasnia, an exercise park near the town hall will be equipped with shaded spots and will feature a striking mural, adding both recreational and cultural value to the area.
La Guancha, another municipality included in the plan, will see a renovated square adjacent to the town hall. This square will not only be more accessible but will also be better equipped to function as a gathering place for the local community. Accessibility and shaded areas are priorities in the project, demonstrating that the Cabildo de Tenerife is attentive to the specific needs of each location and its residents.
Government Building Restoration
Such redevelopments are part of a broader trend in urban areas to create more livable, greener, and functional spaces that are better equipped to withstand the challenges of a changing climate. Alongside these urban landscape improvements, the Cabildo has also approved a comprehensive restoration of the façades and internal renovation of a building adjacent to the Insular Government Building in Santa Cruz. This project has a budget of 12.5 million euros and is expected to be completed within 26 months.
This investment in the historic building underscores the Cabildo’s commitment to preserving Tenerife’s cultural heritage while enhancing the building’s functionality. The project includes the renovation of the old garages on the premises and will eventually extend to renovating the façade of the Island Palace itself. These historic renovations aim to preserve and strengthen the cultural identity of Tenerife, a key aspect of the Cabildo’s policy.
Sustainable and Attractive
The improvement of urban infrastructure goes beyond aesthetics. It is an integral part of the broader plan to enhance the island’s resilience to extreme weather conditions and climate change. Green infrastructure, such as shaded areas and the greening of public spaces, not only contributes to visual appeal but also has a direct impact on residents’ well-being. Shaded areas, for instance, reduce the impact of heat waves, while greener spaces support biodiversity and contribute to a healthier living environment.
In short, these investments and initiatives by the Cabildo de Tenerife are comprehensive, demonstrating an integrated approach to urban development, infrastructure improvement, and environmental restoration. From landscape restoration and historical renovation to bolstering emergency services and sustainable water management, the administration is clearly focused on creating a resilient, functional, and attractive Tenerife.
