    FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL

This month, Tenerife is once again entirely dedicated to the world of film music. Until 19 July, the island hosts the 20th edition of FIMUCITÉ, the International Film Music Festival of Tenerife. What began twenty years ago as an ambitious cultural initiative has grown into one of the world’s leading festivals dedicated exclusively to film music.

    Special Themes

For this anniversary edition, the organisers have chosen a special theme: the most iconic film scores that have either won or been nominated for an Academy Award. Particular attention is being given to the work of legendary American composer John Williams. His music for classics such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and E.T. ranks among the most recognisable film scores of all time.

The undisputed highlight of the festival will be “John Williams Reimagined”, a concert featuring fresh orchestral interpretations of some of his best-known compositions. Visitors can also enjoy “Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert”, where the iconic film is accompanied live by a full symphony orchestra. Performances of this kind are extremely popular internationally and attract visitors from across Europe to Tenerife every year.

A Confirmation of Its International Reputation

The festival also offers an extensive programme beyond the Auditorio de Tenerife. In Santa Cruz, free open-air concerts will take place at various locations, including performances at Plaza del Príncipe. In addition, the popular open-air cinema returns, allowing visitors to enjoy free film screenings on warm summer evenings in a relaxed outdoor setting.

According to festival director Diego Navarro, this twentieth edition is not only a celebration of FIMUCITÉ’s rich history but also a confirmation of the international reputation the festival has built over the years. Thanks to collaborations with renowned composers, conductors and orchestras, the event has become a fixture on the calendar for film music enthusiasts from around the world.

    A Boost for Cultural Tourism

This anniversary edition will once again welcome several internationally acclaimed composers. Among them is Academy Award-winning American composer John Corigliano, while British composer Stephen Warbeck, also an Oscar winner, will travel to Tenerife for the festival. Their presence further highlights the reputation FIMUCITÉ has established over the past two decades.

The festival appeals to far more than music lovers alone. It also makes a significant contribution to Tenerife’s cultural tourism. Hotels, restaurants and local businesses in Santa Cruz benefit each year from the thousands of visitors who travel to the island specifically for the festival. At the same time, FIMUCITÉ continues to strengthen Tenerife’s international image as a destination where culture and tourism go hand in hand.

Anyone staying in Tenerife over the coming days has a unique opportunity to experience concerts of the highest international standard. With a programme that combines classic film music, open-air cinema and free public events, the twentieth edition of FIMUCITÉ promises to be one of the island’s cultural highlights of the summer.
