    DEADLY FIRE IN LOS REALEJOS

A recent incident in Tenerife has left a deep impression on both residents and visitors to the island. In the early hours of Saturday morning, a fire broke out in an apartment complex in the El Toscal neighborhood, located in Los Realejos. What began as a local incident quickly escalated into a tragedy with serious consequences.

According to Spanish media, the fire started around 3:30 a.m. in a home on the first floor of a three-story building. The flames spread rapidly along the exterior façade to other apartments, catching several residents off guard with smoke and fire.

    Dramatic consequences
The consequences were devastating. Three people lost their lives due to smoke inhalation, including a 60-year-old woman who died at the scene. Two other victims, a 65-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman, were taken to the hospital in critical condition but later died from their injuries. In addition, several residents were injured, some of them seriously. In total, seven people had to be admitted to various hospitals across the island.

Emergency services responded in large numbers. Firefighters, ambulances, and police arrived quickly at the scene and evacuated more than thirty residents from the building. Thanks to the efforts of multiple fire units, the blaze was eventually brought under control. Psychological support was also offered to affected residents and family members, highlighting the severity of the situation.

    Major impact on the community
This incident once again underscores the importance of safety measures in homes. Authorities emphasize that, in the event of a fire, smoke development poses a major danger. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed when smoke is present and to shield themselves as much as possible until emergency services arrive.

In addition to the direct impact on the families involved, this fire has had a broader effect on the Tenerife community. It raises questions about fire safety in older buildings and the need for preventive inspections. Local authorities are expected to pay increased attention in the coming period to inspections and awareness campaigns.

    Support for affected families
Although Tenerife is widely known as a safe and attractive destination, this tragedy shows that unexpected situations can occur here as well. For residents and winter visitors—including many foreign guests—it serves as a reminder to remain vigilant and to take basic safety rules seriously.

In the coming weeks, further investigation will determine the exact cause of the fire. Meanwhile, the island stands in solidarity with the affected families, and the incident remains a topic of discussion within the local community.
