    CARNIVAL LOS CRISTIANOS

The International Carnival of Los Cristianos 2026 is approaching! Unlike the grand Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which takes place in February, this cheerful celebration in the south of Tenerife is held in early March. It offers a fresh and sunny way to keep the island’s festive spirit alive a little longer.

    Dates of the festivities

This year, the carnival in Los Cristianos runs from Thursday, March 5 to Monday, March 16, 2026. During these days the town comes alive with a mix of colourful parades, music, shows and lively activities for all ages.

For anyone living in Tenerife or visiting the island during this period, it is well worth setting aside some time for these dates. In Los Cristianos everything revolves around fun, public participation and that unmistakable carnival atmosphere that people remember long afterwards.

Carnival in Los Cristianos: what can you expect?

The carnival in Los Cristianos has its own character. It is often slightly smaller in scale than the celebrations in Santa Cruz, but it is certainly no less vibrant. Visitors can enjoy lively street parades with decorated floats, dance groups (comparsas), murgas, music and spectacular costumes that take spectators on a visual journey full of imagination and creativity.

Traditionally, these parades are spread throughout the programme. The most spectacular days usually take place toward the end of the celebrations, particularly on March 14 and 15, when the festive atmosphere reaches its peak.

    The grand parade (coso)

The coso is the moment when the carnival truly comes to life. Floats with themes ranging from space adventures to tropical festivals roll through the streets, accompanied by groups performing synchronised dances while spectators along the route clap, laugh and enjoy the spectacle.

For a more mature audience, it is a wonderful opportunity to stand comfortably along the route, enjoy a drink and watch the energetic procession with friends or family. It is also the day when the greatest variety of creativity can be seen: from classic masks and feathers to modern interpretations, often reflecting the year’s carnival theme.

Visitors can take plenty of photos and admire the details of each float. It is truly a highlight of the carnival period.

This year, the coso will take place on Sunday, March 15.

    A friendly local atmosphere

Los Cristianos is known for its welcoming atmosphere, where residents and tourists gather in a relaxed setting. Along the promenade and in the surrounding streets you will find music, small performances, local stalls and pleasant places to sit and socialise.

The festive mood is lively but never rushed, making it an ideal celebration for anyone who wants to enjoy the carnival spirit at a comfortable pace.

    In summary

Whether you have lived in Tenerife for years or are simply visiting the island, from March 5 to March 16, 2026, Los Cristianos is the place to experience the carnival spirit in a sunny and joyful setting. The combination of parades, music and shared celebration makes this one of the most enjoyable moments of the year in the south of the island, perfect to experience with friends or family.
