    BOOK FAIR IN LA LAGUNA

Book lovers can once again head to Plaza del Cristo in La Laguna from 8 to 12 October for the Feria del Libro de La Laguna 2026. This year’s book fair is expected to be bigger than previous editions, with more than 200 literary and cultural activities, over 80 authors and a total of 50 exhibitors. According to the organisers, this will be the highest level of participation by bookshops in the past fifteen years.

    A meeting place for readers

Of the 50 exhibitors, 30 are bookshops. A further 20 publishers and other organisations from the book sector will also take part. For the first time, bookshops from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will be present as well. This gives the event an even stronger Canary Islands identity and further establishes the fair as a meeting place for readers, writers, publishers and booksellers from across the archipelago.

The programme includes book presentations, talks with authors, conferences, round-table discussions and workshops. Comics, illustration, poetry, fanzines and independent publications will also have their place. The organisers are not focusing solely on adults, as activities for children and young people are also planned.

    Authors from the Canary Islands

One of the key aims of this edition is to give greater visibility to authors from the Canary Islands. Alicia Llarena, Cecilia Domínguez Luis, José Miguel Perera, Pedro Flores, Santiago Gil and Víctor Álamo de la Rosa are among those expected to attend. Well-known names from outside the islands will also travel to La Laguna, including writer Manuel Vilas and journalist and author Helena Resano. Other participants include Andrea Abreu, Nerea Pérez de las Heras, Pol Guasch, Lana Corujo, Rayco Pulido, Aida González Rossi and Angelo Nestore.

The 2026 edition also has a central theme: “El libro de tu vida”, or “the book of your life”. Visitors are invited to reflect on books that have played a special role in their lives. Which book do you still remember from your childhood? Which book would you give to someone dear to you? Which story once changed your opinion? And which book would you like to read again for the very first time? Through these questions, the fair aims to highlight the personal connection between readers and books.

    Spanish book fair

The Feria del Libro de La Laguna is now part of Spain’s national network of book fairs. It is organised by La Laguna City Council and the provincial association of bookshops of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with the support of various cultural and public institutions in the Canary Islands.

For anyone staying in Tenerife in October who enjoys reading, the book fair is a good opportunity to discover contemporary Canarian literature, find new authors and combine the visit with a walk through the historic centre of La Laguna. The fair runs for five days, from Thursday 8 October to Monday 12 October.
