    ABSURDIA WORLD OF ILLUSIONS

This week, a remarkable new attraction opened in the south of Tenerife, mainly aimed at visitors looking for something different from sunbathing, beaches, and traditional excursions. At the Fañabé Plaza Shopping Centre in Costa Adeje, “Absurdia World of Illusions” has opened its doors — an interactive venue entirely dedicated to optical illusions, visual effects, and sensory confusion. According to the Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, it is the first immersive illusion centre of this scale in southern Tenerife.

    Wonder and Curiosity

The new attraction combines art, psychology, and technology through a series of rooms where visitors are constantly challenged to question their own perception. Those entering the centre find themselves in spaces where walls appear to move, floors suddenly seem tilted, and mirrors create completely distorted versions of reality. Some installations play with perspective, while others focus on light, sound, or balance.

The project is intended for both tourists and residents of Tenerife and targets a wide audience. According to early reactions, families and couples are especially interested. However, the creators also expect many visitors from older age groups. The experience is not about speed or action, but rather about wonder and curiosity. Many visitors take their time exploring the different installations and taking photographs.

Encouraging More Activities Beyond the Beach

The opening of the centre reflects a broader trend in Tenerife, where increasing attention is being given to alternative forms of tourism. For several years, the island government and local businesses have been working to broaden the island’s tourism offer so visitors discover more than just the traditional beach resorts. Cultural experiences, gastronomy, nature activities, and innovative attractions are receiving more and more attention.

Costa Adeje remains one of Tenerife’s main tourism engines. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors from countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands stay in the area. New initiatives like this illusion centre are intended to encourage tourists to spend more time exploring activities outside their hotels and beaches. This is important for local shops, restaurants, and shopping centres in the region.

    Where Reality and Illusion Merge

According to the operators, more than a year was spent designing the different rooms. Some of the installations were created specifically for Tenerife. Modern audiovisual techniques and interactive elements were used to actively involve visitors in the experience. Certain rooms look as if they came straight out of a science fiction film, while others are based on classic optical tricks that have existed for centuries.

The first visitors have reacted enthusiastically on social media. The so-called “infinite tunnel,” where visitors feel as if they are walking through endless space, has proven especially popular. Rooms where people suddenly appear much larger or smaller than those around them are also attracting considerable attention.

With this opening, Tenerife once again gains an attraction that responds to the changing expectations of tourists. Today’s visitors increasingly seek unique experiences they can share with family and friends. “Absurdia World of Illusions” aims to do exactly that: create a place where wonder takes centre stage and where reality and illusion constantly blend together.

The centre officially opened this week and is now accessible daily to visitors in Costa Adeje.
